Churches open doors, hearts to hurricane evacuees

Accommodating the recent influx of evacuees might have been a near impossible feat had it not been for several area churches opening their doors.

More than a dozen churches recently stepped beyond their normal ministries to house hundreds of displaced Port Arthur, Texas, residents during hurricanes Gustav and Ike.

Their outreach was in conjunction with the American Red Cross.
