Providing shelter and care for stray animals will become the responsibility of the two Texarkanas on Dec. 1.

A nonprofit agency responsible for overseeing shelter operations, the Texarkana Animal Shelter Inc., is ending its contract with the two cities, giving the required 60 days notice.

“As of Dec. 1, 2008, TAS will no longer be responsible for financing the shelter’s operations ... We intend to continue advocating for the animals of Texarkana but we can no longer be responsible for the daily operation/funding of the shelter,” Mimi McDaniel, TAS board president, said...
