A month-old De Queen, Ark., infant is in critical condition at Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock and the father is in jail for allegedly beating the baby.

Paul Steffler, 25, of De Queen has been charged with domestic battery first degree for allegedly beating month-old Caleb Steffler.

The father pleaded innocent to the Class B felony Thursday in Sevier County Circuit Court in De Queen. The charge carries a potential sentence of five to 20 years in prison and a maximum fine of $15,000.
