4.68-carat diamond called ‘Sweet Caroline’ found at Murfreesboro

A retired Flint, Mich., high school counselor and golf coach recently unearthed a 4.68-carat white diamond from the Crater of Diamonds State Park in Murfreesboro, Ark.

Richard Burke and his wife, Carol, found the diamond Sept. 20 in a shallow ravine near the west drain area of the park’s 35.5-acre search area.

Burke and his wife had been searching for about three hours when the diamond was unearthed.

He named the diamond the “Sweet Caroline” after his wife, Carol, and the song performed by Neil Diamond, “Sweet Caroline.”
