Judges send Outback case back

Appeals court says part of testimony not admissible; new trial is a possibility

Texas’ highest appellate court has ruled that a mistake was made during the trial of a man convicted of being the trigger man in the Texarkana Outback Steakhouse triple homicide.

The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals has ordered a lower court to determine whether the error should result in a new trial for Stephon Lavelle Walter.

Walter is serving life in prison for the Aug. 31, 2003, murders of Matt Hines, Crystal Willis and Rebecca Shifflet, who was pregnant when she was shot to death.
