Grant gives kids ability to receive a free book

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Area Health Education Center-Southwest has partnered with Target to improve childhood literacy through the Reach Out and Read program.

A $3,500 grant from the nationwide retailer to AHEC-Southwest will provide 1,200 free, age-appropriate books to be distributed to parents of children ages 6 months to 5 years during well-child exams. The Reach Out and Read program makes literacy promotion a standard part of pediatric primary care so children grow up with books and a love of reading.
