Charities team up to give needy kids a merry Christmas

The Salvation Army and Toys for Tots are teaming up this year to provide needy children with a stocking-filled Christmas.

“It’s designed to help families have a good Christmas,” said Capt. Doris Lawrence of the local Salvation Army. “It’s not just for moms but also single dads who are raising their children ... or guardians.”

The Salvation Army is signing clients up for its Angel Tree program and Toys for Tots. People can apply for assistance from 9 a.m. to noon and 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. today through Friday at the Salvation Army Church building, 415 E. Fourth St., Tex...
