Nash voters defeated a referendum that would have allowed alcohol sales in the city, according to complete but unofficial results Tuesday.

The referendum failed with 406 votes against and 220 votes in favor.

Supporters of the alcohol sales referendum said permitting the sales would bring about a favorable economic upswing by making the city more attractive to restaurants and other entertainment venues.
