Although the Army had Cpl. J.D. Elliott listed to receive the Bronze Star for his service during World War II, the citation arrived 63 years later.

Last month, the Department of Veterans Affairs finally sent the 82-year-old Texarkana, Texas, resident his citation in the mail.

“Back in April of this year, my parents received a letter from the VA,” said Brenda Pearcy, Elliott’s daughter.
