A lawyer from Umpire, Ark., and formerly Texarkana, is under investigation by the Arkansas State Police for alleged fraud, authorities confirmed last week.

The investigations into the actions of attorney Terry Lynn Smith, certified public accountant and certified financial planner, stem from the loss of more than $500,000 belonging to a Lockesburg, Ark., couple. The investigation was started at the request of Howard County Deputy Bryan Chesshir, who will become the prosecutor for the 9th Judicial District West on Jan. 1, 2009.
