A Murfreesboro, Ark., woman died Saturday night after her boyfriend, a former Murfreesboro police officer, shot her in the back during an argument, officials said.

When Nashville, Ark., police arrived at 118 Lockesburg St., Daniel Gardner, 42, was sitting on the porch with his mother. Thirty-four-year-old Marie Cogburn’s body was found inside on a bed. She had been shot with an AR-15 rifle, police said.

Gardner was arrested about 11:50 p.m. without incident, said 9th Judicial District Prosecutor Bryan Chesshir.
