Two 18-wheelers collide on Highway 59; drivers uninjured


Emergency personnel check one of the 18-wheelers involved in a collision Thursday on U.S. Highway 59. There were no injuries, but both trucks lost fuel tanks. An environmental hazard response crew took measures to decontaminate the area.
ATLANTA, Texas—A mid-morning collision that left two 18-wheelers mangled could have been a lot worse, said Sgt. Allen Williams of the Atlanta Police Department.

The trucks were northbound on U.S. Highway 59 when the accident occurred about 8:55 a.m., approximately a half mile inside the city limits. 

Williams said an 18-wheeler, driven by an owner-operator for Atlantic and Pacific Freightways, was attempting a right turn into a pipeline staging yard when the cab of his truck collided with the cab of an 18-wheeler belonging to Suttles Truck Leasing.
