Shooting death trial to go to jury today

Man accused of shooting friend

NEW BOSTON, Texas—Did Todd O’Malley shoot his best friend accidentally because he was a careless gun novice or did he commit murder?

A jury of six men and six women will be asked to answer that question today after hearing closing arguments in O’Malley’s murder trial this morning. The 24-year-old faces five to 99 years or life in a Texas prison if convicted.

O’Malley is accused of shooting 21-year-old Daniel Kohl with a Rutger P-45 9mm semiautomatic pistol Sept. 25, 2006, in the bedroom of a Hooks residence.
