LINDEN, Texas—A Queen City, Texas, woman accused of beating her 13-year-old adopted son to death pleaded not guilty Friday to capital murder.

District Attorney Clint Allen said his office is seeking the death penalty.

“Because of the brutal and heinous nature of this crime, my office has adopted an aggressive position in terms of the charge. But I believe it is one that is justified, and I will do everything in my power to bring some measure of justice on behalf of this child who was, essentially, tortured to death,” Allen said.
