Airmen come to Dierks’ rescue

Air National Guard gets clean water to storm-stricken town


Technical Sgt. William Kendrick turns on the main valve to begin moving water through a water purification unit the Arkansas Air National Guard deployed to the small Southwest Arkansas community of Dierks on Tuesday. A five-man team from the Guard’s 188th Fighter Wing, Civil Engineering Squadron at Fort Smith deployed two reverse osmosis water purification units to restore the flow of clean water to the town’s 1,230 residents. The town has been operating on bottled water since a tornado destroyed the water treatment facility April 9.
A team of Arkansas Air National Guard members delivered two water-purification units and power generators to restore clean water to Dierks, Ark.

A tornado hit the Dierks water treatment plant April 9, leaving the town with little clean water.

The team included five airmen of the 188th Fighter Wing’s Civil Engineering Squadron from the Arkansas Air National Guard.

The airmen installed two water-treatment units known as “reverse osmosis water-purification units.”
