OMAHA, Texas—To increase the teaching of history in Northeast Texas public schools, the Ark-Tex Council of Government’s executive committee has agreed to seek federal funds.

During their regular monthly meeting Thursday, the committee approved an application from the Region VIII Education Center submitted to ATCOG last month that asks the U.S. Department of Education for nearly $1 million in grant money to finance a three-year teacher development project called HERE (Historians Engaging Rural Educators).
