Firefighters battle chemical burning

Foam, dry ice used to quell smoldering

About 800 buckets of chemfuel started smoldering in the truck and was removed by emergency teams. Two firemen were overcome by heat but were not seriously hurt.
Firefighters in Foreman, Ark., worked Wednesday to control a hazardous materials situation after a chemical reaction caused more than 800 buckets of chemfuel to smolder.

Little River County Emergency Management Director Don Hale Jr., said the six 1-gallon buckets of chemfuel had some type of reaction about 7:42 a.m. Wednesday.

The buckets of chemfuel were on a truck parked on the side of Highway 41 about a mile south of Foreman.

Hale said firefighters and emergency crews used foam, water and dry ice to suppress the chemical reaction.
