New seatbelt law kicks off today; local officers will be ‘vigilant’

Today, a new Arkansas law will allow officers across the state to give a new meaning to “Click It or Ticket.”

It has become a primary offense for drivers and front-seat passengers to not wear seatbelts. Officers can now pull over motorists for that offense alone.

Local agencies say they intend to enforce the law.

“We’ve always been proactive when it comes to the use of seatbelts,” said Chief Deputy Mike Mauldin of the Miller County Sheriff’s Department. “We will be just as vigilant as always in maintaining the law.”
