The Texarkana Independent School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved a $54 million budget for the 2009-10 school year during Tuesday’s special called meeting.

The budget had a $60,536 deficit, but school officials said it will be covered by the end of the year.

“This year’s $54.8 million budget is essentially break-even but allows for us to still include teacher step increases in salary ...” said Deidra Reeves, chief financial officer for TISD.
