Immigrants suffering from abuse can seek help

Abused immigrants may obtain immigration benefits, including permanent U.S. residency under the Violence Against Women Act and immigration laws.

In cases where the victim is undocumented and married to a U.S. citizen or is a legal permanent resident, the Texas Civil Rights Project’s VAWA Program provides immigration benefits.

Victims of physical, sexual or psychological abuse, social isolation or cruelty at the hands of a spouse or other household member can receive help in the form of legal status or a valid work authorization.
