Small town stretching its wings with airport expansion project

After construction is completed using nearly $200,000 grant, the J. Lynn Helms County Airport west of De Queen, Ark., “continues to develop into a pretty good airport for Smalltown, USA,” said Sevier County Judge Dick Tallman.

A Federal Aviation Administration grant for $126,694 will help the airport board purchase 21 acres next to the airport and construct a parallel taxiway, Tallman said.

The grant will be awarded in phases for the purchase of the land and then to move the hangar building to allow for the construction of the parallel taxiway.
