Public defender appointed for man accused in friend’s shooting death

A Texarkana, Ark., man, who is accused of killing a friend with a single round from a pump shotgun, went before a judge in Miller County for the first time Thursday afternoon.

Scott Michael Adams, 37, was asked by District Judge Wren Autrey if he could afford to hire his own lawyer.

“I’m not sure, your honor,” said Adams as his family looked on.

Autrey appointed the public defender’s office to represent Adams and scheduled him to return to court July 21. Adams is being held in isolation at the Miller County jail.
