Buzzing, biting insects are a pesky part of summer fun most people could live without.

The American College of Emergency physicians recently issued a warning about the dangers of insect bites, especially from blood-sucking ticks and mosquitoes, which in addition to the gross factor, can cause serious illness.

“The bite itself may be nothing more than a minor annoyance,” said Dr. Nick Jouriles, American College of Emergency Physicians president. “It’s the disease that insects carry that can become a serious medical problem.”
