Waivers not used as shortcut on training, Miller sheriff says

Miller County Sheriff’s Department has capitalized on a legal loophole to put experienced officers on the streets faster by getting waivers to reduce their normally required retraining time.

Twelve weeks of retraining were cut down to one because of requests made by and granted to Miller County Sheriff Ron Stovall.

A rule necessitating officers who have been out of law enforcement for seven years or more to repeat rookie training before returning to service has seen an increase in challenges lately in the form of the waivers.
