Animal shelter needs more food donations


John Davenport and his father, Eric, move to a storage area some of the 16 bags of dog food they donated Friday to the Texarkana Animal Care and Adoption Center. The shelter goes through 150 pounds of food a day and is in need of dog and puppy food.
The Texarkana Animal Care and Adoption Center is in desperate need of dog and puppy food donations.

The local dog food shortage mirrors a national trend regarding shelters who’ve seen their food donations drop.

“This is a common problem that seems to be occurring in shelters across the nation,” said Mimi McDaniel, Texarkana Animal League chairman. “Recently a shelter in Texas was so low on food donations they were forced to euthanize animals. We do not want to be put in that situation.”
