A Texarkana attorney accused of paying his employees with worthless checks hasn’t hired a lawyer to represent him.

“Your honor, I want to let you know Don Cooksey is on the docket and he has not hired me,” Texarkana lawyer Robert Witterstaetter said Tuesday in open court in Miller County.

“We’ll take your name off that case,” said Circuit Judge W. Kelvin Wyrick.

“He has not hired me. He hasn’t come across with the attorney’s fees and I don’t anticipate that he will,” Witterstaetter said. “But if he does, I will be more than happy to protect his rights.”
