According to statistics from the National Center for Education Statistics released by the Bowie-Cass Adult Education Cooperative, 13 percent of Bowie County adults are illiterate and 15 percent are considered illiterate in Cass County. State statistics show that 19 percent of all adults in Texas cannot read.
