Meteorologist: Nearly 2 inches in 30 minutes

Sunday’s promised rains hit harder than many residents in Bowie County, Texas, prepared for, officials said.

About 4:30 p.m. Sunday, the National Weather Service in Shreveport, La., issued a significant weather alert for Bowie County that concentrated on Dalby Springs, DeKalb and New Boston. The alert also indicated a severe thunderstorm was en route with high winds expected.

“The storm did show some rotation, very weak rotation,” said Bill Parker, a meteorologist with the NWS.
