The 18-day monarch butterfly experiment Kilpatrick Elementary School students are conducting with NASA is progressing nicely, school officials said.

The students are on Day 16 of the research, which mimics scientists’ tests aboard the international space station.

The students on Tuesday watched video and photos of the astronauts’ experiment, which is progressing a little slower than the Kilpatrick team.

“We seem to be one day ahead compared to the ones in space,” said teacher Mike Brisco, who is overseeing the local experiment.
