State’s high court to hear Turk case

Opponents argue coal-fired power plant would cause environmental damage

The Arkansas Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on the John W. Turk Power Plant near Fulton beginning at 9 a.m. April 15 in Little Rock.

The case, Hempstead Co. Hunting Club, Inc. and Schultz Family Management Co. v. Arkansas Public Service Commission, Southwestern Electric Power Co., American Electric Power Co. involves the Public Service Commission’s decision to grant the approval of a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility and Public Need for the Turk Power Plant, a coal-fired plant now under construction.
