Of all the schools in the Gazette’s Northeast Texas circulation area, only New Boston was reclassified in the University Interscholastic League’s biennial realignment and reclassification plan announced Friday.

New Boston, which competed in Region III’s District 17-2A the last two years, was elevated to Class 3A and will move to Region II and District 16 beginning with the new school year. The Lions will join Liberty-Eylau, Pleasant Grove, Atlanta, Pittsburg and Mount Vernon.

Those five schools made up District 16-3A the past two years.
