As a rule, most high school coaches appear to be superstitious, which is probably why Glenn Welch is reluctant to put the onus on his 2008 Texas High baseball team.

But he will admit his defending District 11-4A champions have the potential to be the best squad he’s had in six years as head coach of the Tigers.

“We’ve got a chance to be pretty good, and we knew that going in,” Welch said. “On paper we look good, but we’ll just have to wait and see how we are on the field.”
