Texas High didn’t exactly knock the cover off the baseball in its District 11-4A opener Tuesday at Tiger Field, but the Tigers didn’t need to.

That’s because Josh Turley did not allow North Lamar a hit as the Tigers opened defense of their league title with a 2-0 victory.

Pitching like he was late for a date, Texas High’s junior left-hander baffled the Panthers (4-9) with an assortment of pitches, finishing with 13 strikeouts in the one hour, 10-minute contest. His only mistakes were a pair of walks in the second and fifth innings.
