MOUNT PLEASANT, Texas—It’s not yet a done deal, but New Boston’s softball team at least has a leg up on its area-round playoff jinx.

Until last year, the second round of the playoffs was often the Waterloo for the Lady Lions, but after Friday night’s 1-0 victory, they need only one more win in the best-of-three series with Rivercrest to advance.

Game 2 is scheduled for 3 p.m. today at Mount Pleasant’s Lady Tiger Field, and a Rivercrest victory would force a rubber match 30 minutes following completion of today’s first game.
