The NCAA has ruled that transfer quarterback Ryan Mallett, a former All-American at Texas High, must sit out a year before playing for the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Arkansas had asked the NCAA to waive the requirement that Mallett sit out a year. Mallett transferred from Michigan after retiring coach Lloyd Carr was replaced by Rich Rodriguez.

Mallett, 19, must spend one year at school at Arkansas before being eligible to play for the Razorbacks. Mallett practiced with Arkansas this spring, but missed much of the spring practice with a thumb injury.
