MOUNT PLEASANT, Texas—Down two strikes, Jacob Simmons insisted he wasn’t thinking about his previous at-bats, two of which ended in strikeouts, against Jefferson’s Dusty Sabren.

“I was just thinking about my team, and how I had to pull through,” said Simmons, who stroked a two-out, two-run single to lift New Boston to a 14-13 victory in the rubber match of their best-of-three series Saturday. “It was a fastball right down the middle, and I was two-strike hitting, just trying to get on base.”
