MOUNT PLEASANT, Texas—Avery advanced to the area round of the Class A playoffs Saturday by routing Cumby in five innings, 15-4.

Avery (9-10), the third-place team from District 18-A behind McLeod and Maud, advances to play Overton. That best-of-three series begins at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at Harmony High School. The second game will be at 6:30 on Friday, and if a third game is necessary it will be played at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
