Tennis: Orberger wins state title
AUSTIN—Avery’s Matt Orberger, a foreign exchange student from Germany, survived a tough three-set match Tuesday to win the UIL’s Class A singles tennis championship.
The news wasn’t as good in Class 4A where Texas High senior Daniel Moser lost a heart-breaker to New Braunfel’s Jake Hendrie, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3. Hendrie beat teammate Tyler Brown for the championship by the same scores. Orberger’s path to the title began Monday when he beat Morton’s Trey Kimbrell in the quarterfinals, 6-3, 6-4.
