Round 2 of the high school baseball playoffs and Round 3 of the softball postseason in Northeast Texas get under way today with four area teams in action.

District 17-2A champion Hughes Springs joins the area-round action after drawing a bi-district bye. The Mustangs open a best-of-three series with Winnsboro at 7 p.m. at Gilmer High School.

In Class A, Maud and Fruitvale face off in a one-game shootout at 6 p.m. at Paris Junior College’s Hub Hollis Field, and Avery takes on Overton at 7 p.m. in their series opener at Gilmer Harmony High School.
