NASHVILLE, Ark.—Ashdown’s battery was fully charged against Jonesboro Valley View in its Class 4A state softball tournament opener Friday at Nashville High School.

Lady Panthers’ pitcher Jamie Fleming twirled a complete-game 1-hitter and catcher Morgan Thrash belted a two-run homer and triple to knock in three runs, sparking Ashdown to the 5-0 win over the Lady Blazers.

The Panthers (21-11), the No. 3 seed from the South, advance to today’s quarterfinals at 1:45 p.m. against Clarksville, the top seed from the North that received a first-round bye.
