NEW BOSTON, Texas—The first five innings of the New Boston-Harleton Class 2A area softball contest lacked any type of excitement Friday at Lady Lions Field.

But the two teams made up for that in the final two innings.

After escaping a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the top of the sixth inning, New Boston pushed across a run in the bottom of the seventh for a 1-0 victory in the opener of the best-of-three series that resumes at 1 p.m. today in Harleton. If a third game is necessary, it will follow today’s first contest.
