MARSHALL, Texas—The Maud Cardinals soared to an 11-run second inning and held on for the win in a wild back-and-forth game Saturday in the Region III-A quarterfinals at Woods Field at East Texas Baptist College.

The Cardinals (21-6) claimed a 14-13 victory over Price Carlisle in the rubber game of the best-of-three series, advancing to the regional semifinals against Malakoff Cross Roads, which pounded Grapeland, 12-0, Saturday to win its series. Cross Roads is ranked No. 4 in the state in Class A in the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association poll.
