SULPHUR SPRINGS, Texas—The Maud Cardinals moved a step closer toward the state tournament with a doubleheader victory over Malakoff Cross Roads Friday at Wildcat Field.

Maud (23-6) rallied from a 2-0 deficit to win the opener, 6-2, and held on for a 4-2 victory in the second game.

Cross Roads ends its season with a 25-6 record.

“Anything for the team is our motto,” said Maud coach Cody Finney. “We have a bunch of unselfish young men. We got past a very good team tonight, but still have a long way to go.”
