LONGVIEW, Texas—This time the Lady Cardinals made history.

Maud coach Jeff Callahan walked through the outfield with his head bowed toward the green outfield grass. The coach wiped away tears of joy while the Lady Cardinals celebrated not 20 feet away.

Alto’s seven errors opened the flood gates for Maud to score a 5-3 win Friday in the Region III-A girls softball playoffs at Longview’s Lear Park.
