CARTHAGE, Texas—It was a tale of two teams Friday in the Region III-A finals at Jim Reeves Memorial Field.

The Maud Cardinals took advantage of West Sabine’s mistakes to claim a 9-5 victory in the opening game of the best-of-three series. However, Maud committed six errors in the nightcap loss, 7-5.

The rubber game is scheduled for 2 p.m. today with the winner advancing to the state tournament next week in Round Rock.

Maud enters the contest with a 23-5 record.
