Liberty-Eylau freshman Jarrion Lawson competed in last week’s Junior Olympics at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti.

Lawson finished eighth in the triple jump with a leap of 39-5 3/4 after placing fifth in the preliminaries with a jump of 40-6.

Dapo Akinmoladun of Grandview, Mo., set a national record in the triple jump for that same age division with a leap of 46-11 3/4.
