The Texarkana Country Club course took a bite out of the participants in the opening round of the first annual Texas High Classic Friday.

Not a single player among the field of top high school players in Texas and Oklahoma managed par, but J. J. Pearce of Richardson was the best as a group, coming in at 302 for a two-shot lead over favored Edmond (Okla.) North.
