Lucas Lovejoy coach Ryan Mitchell hesitated when asked if his volleyball team deserves its No. 1 ranking in 3A.

“That’s a tough question,” Mitchell finally answered. “These girls have really worked hard, and they’ve played well against some of the best 5A and 4A teams in our area.”

Only in its third year of existence, Lucas Lovejoy (34-5) puts its state ranking on the line at 7:30 tonight in the Sulphur Springs High School gymnasium against Liberty-Eylau (27-8).
