NEW BOSTON, Texas—Rick Barker was neither shocked nor disappointed when New Boston was elevated to Class 3A in last Feburary’s biennial UIL realignment process.

Neither, he said, would be the returning players on the Lions’ 2008 football team.

As it turned out, Barker was right on both points, the Lions ignoring the transition from one of Class 2A’s biggest schools to among the smallest in 3A by winning nine of 10 games and sharing the District 16-3A championship.
