LAVACA, Ark.—It was the worst possible scenario for Lafayette County.

The Cougars started poorly and never stood a chance against Lavaca on Friday night. The Golden Arrows stunned the Cougars with three touchdowns in the first six minutes and cruised to a victory in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs, 48-12.

The Golden Arrows (7-4) advance to play Earle, which defeated Riverview, 42-26, Friday.

“We weren’t quite settled down,” Cougars Coach Jeff McBride said. “It’s hard to come out of a hole like that. You can’t go down 21-0 in the first quarter.”
